Vinegar + Baking Soda
Vinegar + Baking soda is quite effective at killing mould. This mixture can also produce very good results as a stain remover and when trying to remove mildew smell.
Mix 2 parts baking soda to 1 part of white vinegar.
You can add this to a bucket of hot water and soak the clothes in it before washing them or simply add the vinegar/ baking soda mix to the washing machine once it has filled with water and before the first wash cycle.
Do not mix vinegar and bleach as this combination can release a dangerous gas.
You also need to be careful to do a spot test in an inconspicuous place first in case the mixture causes discolouration.

Does Vinegar Kill Mold
Vinegar has been used for centuries to fight bacteria and fungi. It’s a natural antimicrobial agent that kills germs quickly. Vinegar contains acetic acid which helps break down organic matter. So, yes, vinegar does kill mold!
But there are two important caveats here. The first is that vinegar doesn’t actually destroy mold itself. Instead, it just makes it easier for cleaner products to eliminate it. And second, vinegar isn’t effective against all types of molds.
For example, it won’t hurt mildew but it may not get rid of black mold either. However, it might still be able to kill off most of its spores.

How To Remove Mildew Or Mold From Fabric Furniture
To remove mold from furniture you should expose it to fresh air and sunlight, use a brush and/or vacuum to remove loose mold spores, clean using white vinegar, then rub down with diluted rubbing alcohol to prevent future growth. You must then make changes to the area in which the furniture sits to stop the mold from growing again.
Before getting started, we recommend you invest in a mask and some gloves to protect you from the mold spores and any cleaning materials you will be using. Always test cleaning materials on a small, out-of-the-way area of your upholstery before treating the rest of the piece.
Lets take a look at those steps in detail:
Clean Out Coffee Maker
The moist interior of a coffee maker is prime real estate for mold and mildew growth. Clean the coffee maker by using a funnel and pouring white vinegar into the maximum fill line of the water tank. Run a cycle with the vinegar . Repeat if you spot a lot of mold or mildew at the top of the tank.
Run one to two cycles of plain water to rinse the vinegar from the coffee maker before making coffee again.

First Step: Prep Work
Before you grab a bucket and scrub brush, there is some prep work involved in getting your cushions or seats ready to clean. First, you’ll want to work outside so you don’t spread the mold spores to any indoor furniture or materials. If possible, clean your fabric on a sunny day because sunlight kills mold and prevents it from spreading. First, sweep any visible mold from your cushions using a broom. Be careful not to spread the mold to unaffected areas of fabric. If your mold problem is severe, you might want to also vacuum your cushions after brushing them off as well. Discard the vacuum bag and disinfect the vacuum unit to prevent the spread of mold spores. Now you can move on to cleaning the cushions using one or more of the steps below.
How To Remove Mildew From Baby Clothes
Identify the mildew or mold stains on the clothes of your child. Gently apply white vinegar to the identified mildew spots or mold stains in the clothes. Make sure to dilute the vinegar by adding it to water. Fill the solution inside a spray bottle and spray it on the affected areas.
Leave the solution undisturbed for a while. This will allow the enzymes included in the vinegar to work their magic. The solution will slowly remove the stains. However, if you can still see mold stains or mildew, repeat the process again and again.
You should launder the clothes once the stains are properly removed. You can use warm water and a detergent to launder the clothes. Make sure to place the clothes under the sun and leave it to dry for better results. This will make it easier for you to clean mildew from clothes.

Get Mildew Out Of Clothes With Hydrogen Peroxide
If lemon juice and vinegar dont take care of your mold and mildew-smell problems, its time to move on to the bleaching agents. But, before you use bleach with chlorine, you might want to give hydrogen peroxide a try.
Hydrogen peroxide is an oxygen bleach, which allows it to break down in the water. Peroxide wont pose as much of a threat to your fabric as chlorine bleaches might, and it still has reliable cleaning power against mildew.
- 1 old toothbrush
Use a cotton swab to test the hydrogen peroxide on an inconspicuous area before treating your clothing with it. Fill the spray bottle with peroxide, and spray any mildew patches until thoroughly wetted. Scrub the patches with a toothbrush. Repeat if needed until the mildew or mold is gone, and wash the fabric.

What Kind Of Mold Can Grow On Clothes
There are two major types of mold black mold and white mold. Black mold on clothes is not as commonly seen as white mold on clothes, but there are chances of both occurring under the right circumstances.
Black mold, also known as Stachybotrys chartarum, is an extremely toxic mold that grows in homes and produces mycotoxins that are capable of causing health hazards in humans, especially once its spores become airborne. By the time black mold is detected, it is often already a major problem in the home.
Though not as frequently perceived as a threat, white mold is fairly common in homes. It is harder to detect on lighter surfaces and has a propensity for changing colour. White mold also feels flaky, and has a powdery appearance, very similar to mildew, which is an earlier stage of mold.
White mold can be injurious to your health, though not to the same extent as black mold. Both black mold and white mold on clothes are dangerous, causing lasting damage to the surfaces they come in contact with, and must be treated as soon as they are recognised.

Dry Clean Only Clothes
Fabrics labeled as dry clean only that have mildew spores should be brushed outdoors using a soft bristle brush. If the fabric is napped like velvet or faux fur, brush gently in the direction the surface should lie.
After brushing, place the garment in a cotton or plastic bag to prevent spreading the spores and immediately take the garment to a professional dry cleaner. Point out and identify the stain to your cleaner.
If you decide to use a home dry cleaning kit, be sure to treat any visible stains with the provided stain remover before adding the garment to the dryer bag.

Prevent Future Mold Growth By Wiping Down With Rubbing Alcohol Solution
Rubbing alcohol will help prevent mold and mildew from growing on the surface of your couch or other furniture by killing the spores. Mix equal parts rubbing alcohol and water in a bucket or tub. Use a sponge or cloth to wipe the solution gently over the areas affected with mold.
You want to use the solution where needed while avoid adding excess moisture to the furnishing. Water and moisture can exacerbate mold which is what were trying to prevent. Once you have cleaned the couch with equal parts alcohol and water, let the piece dry in sunlight for as long as possible. If this is not possible, open windows to increase air flow or use a dehumidifier.
Please note: rubbing alcohol could stain some materials. Test a small area with the solution first and allow to dry.-If it didnt damage or stain it is okay to use.
If the upholstery on the couch or fabric isnt suitable for this mix, you can skip this step and go to cleaning the upholstery using the white vinegar spray solutions. You might even start with a damp cloth and clean off any area that may have mold spots first.
